Take the Active August challenge
Posted 21 Jul 2026
Try one or two activities each week
This August, Act Belong Commit is encouraging everyone to take up the challenge and be little more active to support your mental wellbeing.
The good news is, when we talk about being active, we don’t just mean physical activity. Act Belong Commit encourages staying active in lots of different ways – mentally, physically, socially, spiritually and culturally. It’s about doing more of what helps you feel good.
Why not mix it up this August and try something new?
Here are some ideas to inspire you.
Keep your mind active
Pick up a puzzle, crossword, play chess, learn a new skill or language, read a good book, or try a new hobby, do whatever you enjoy.
Move your body
Go for a walk, stretch, join a parkrun, dance, get out in the garden, swim or try chair yoga – anything that gets your body moving.
Stay connected
Catch up with friends, join a club or an online group, or have a chat with your neighbours. Staying connected is good for your mental wellbeing.
Nurture your spiritual wellbeing
Connect through faith, time in nature, meditation, mindful breathing or creative practices.
Celebrate your culture
Explore your traditions, learn and share your language, cook a family recipe or connect with other people from your community.

To get started we’ve created a ready-to-use activity calendar for you to download.
Give it a go and have fun! These simple activities can make a difference to your daily mental wellbeing, help build resilience and may even become lasting habits.
Active August is an Act Belong Commit Partnership initiative. Each initiative includes a practical toolkit to help you share the message across your workplace or community. It’s simple, encouraging and easy to adapt. If you’re interested in becoming an Act Belong Commit Partner, get in touch.
