Mentally Healthy School in Profile: Ashdale Secondary College
Posted 2 Apr 2019
Ashdale Secondary College has been a partner school since June 2016 and has seen some great things happen as a result of embedding Act-Belong-Commit within their whole school community.
One key achievement is the development of our annual Health and Wellbeing Expo, encouraging students to be more mentally healthy.
Another success was their Men’s Health Month held in June 2018.
Ashdale Secondary College launched Men’s Health Month 2018 with Blue Shirt Wednesday on June 13 where staff were encouraged to wear blue to reduce stigma around men’s mental health. Male colleagues were invited to a sausage sizzle lunch and a brief talk on male-related physical and mental health issues.
They also launched the ‘Blue Man Badge’, where students and other staff members were able to identify male staff who were wearing the badge, and who feel comfortable talking about mental health issues.
As the focus on Young Men’s Health has been well received, Ashdale fully intends to add it to our calendar of events for 2019.
Any primary or secondary school in Western Australia can partner with us to promote the Act-Belong-Commit message. To find out more about the program or how your school can become more mentally healthy, get in touch.
