Small acts of kindness can make a difference to our mental wellbeing

Posted 12 Feb 2026

There’s a lot happening in the world right now and we don’t always know what people are going through. Turning our attention to simple, everyday actions is a powerful way to support mental wellbeing — for others and for ourselves.

This Feel Good Feb, we’re focusing on small acts of kindness that make a big difference. The types that don’t require planning, money or extra time — just a moment that starts a chain reaction of feel-good energy.

  • Say hello to a neighbour
  • Make a colleague a cuppa
  • Leave a surprise note
  • Let someone know you’re thinking of them.

Small moments. Big ripple.

Why kindness matters

These moments might seem small, but a kind word can be just what someone needs to turn their day around. Kindness helps people feel seen, valued and connected — and connection is one of the strongest protective factors for good mental health.

We’ve created a series of short videos with some of our Act Belong Commit Partners sharing what kindness means to them and how simple actions can support mental wellbeing.

There’s something about being kind

Kindness doesn’t just benefit the person receiving it — it feels good for us too.

Many people notice that being kind:

  • Lifts their mood
  • Helps them feel connected
  • Gives them purpose and satisfaction

Even the smallest gesture can create a positive moment.

Kindness includes you too

Kindness isn’t only about what we give to others.

  • Taking five minutes to reset
  • Going for a walk
  • Doing something that makes you feel good
  • Letting something go

Being kind to yourself is just as important.
