Running for Youth Mental Health
Posted 16 May 2018
Burswood’s Jordi Quain knows the personal satisfaction that can be reaped by getting active for a good cause.
With the support of her For the Every Woman Community Exercise Group, Jordi is embarking on a personal challenge to raise money for Act-Belong-Commit by running in the UWA Half Marathon in this years HBF Run for a Reason on 27 May.
“I wanted to support Act-Belong-Commit as I know how important being part of a community and keeping active is to maintaining your mental health. I truly believe in the Act Belong Commit message as we can all take small steps towards improving our connections and mental health and I love that Act-Belong-Commit makes that goal so achievable for us all.”

Jordi grew up in a small country town, and on moving to Perth to study at university, found she missed the close-knit community she grew up with.
“It was pretty strange to be so disconnected from family and the familiarity of a small country town, but I found my own forms of community through volunteering and sports. I would not have been able to complete my undergraduate degree without the support and stability that I gained form the communities I’d built myself into.”
Mentally Healthy WA’s Chloe Townsend said, “There is a tremendous sense of achievement and satisfaction that is gained from doing something meaningful“ and as Jordina has discovered, taking part in fundraising events like this for a good cause can be a lot of fun as well.”
2018 marks a significant year for Act-Belong-Commit, as it is the 10th anniversary of the campaigns state-wide rollout. And what better way to celebrate than by joining the HBF Run for a Reason to raise money for youth mental health in WA!

“Honestly, community involvement and exercise have pulled me through some very tough times with my own mental health. For me, being around good people who are supportive and like-minded keep me afloat and thriving – they are the reassurance I need when I don’t have the positive messages to be giving to myself.”
